Splash Date Set

Well, We finally set the splash day, It is going to be on a Thursday, so we can have a three day weekend to get the Diesel fuel filtered from a guy that lives in Benecia. Which has also changed. We have been eyeballing a slip that is 42', here at Napa Marina. The job that he has right now, pays good, soo we will stay close for as long as the Cap'n deems to be up. I am working on *soon to be named* Cerridwen. When we splash we are going to do the ceremony. We are also going to do the ceremony to also name the hard dinghy. Heather Marie.
The puppy elevator will be put aside, I am soo going to miss the, one weinie down, two weinie down, one weinie up, and two weinie. The kiddz have been learning so much. I can't wait to just toss 'em in the cockpit.
We have to get a couple of more things finished. But it is going to be Thursday June 12, 2o14.The Cap'n took the Friday off. He just has to set the day with the marina. And the fuel filter guy Dusty.

Mast Graveyard

I was lucky and took a 3 day weekend, to go play with my kiddz, so that left the Captain to get his Sheer Stripe done. It is a good job to tackle, especially by yourself. The Cap'n was able to get a couple of Primer coats on. He was able to get alot of the bad areas epoxied.
He was able to get our somewhat shade cover figured out. I would have loved to watch that, , from a distance.

We took a stroll through the other work area, and I was amazed at some of the boats that they were working on back there. There was alot of 'pride in your work' going on back there. Some of the boats were a total reconstruction. We wandered out the other side, and I got kind of nostalgically saddened to come upon what appeared to be the 'mast graveyard' . I hope they all get to go back up soon.
I am back to work on the Cetol. I stopped by West Marine in Rocklin, and picked up a couple of quarts of the Clear Gloss Cetol. I did put one more 'colored' coat on first, so thats, 4 "Natural Teak" coats of Cetol, and 2 clear gloss coats.

First Coat Of Cetol On

All the sanding that has been going on around here and I finally got to put on the first coat of Cetol. It turned out pretty good. Everything went pretty smooth, the only thing that went wrong was I forgot to tape the gates to the cockpit, which is kinda hard to do with rubber gloves, it was pretty funny actually. As soon as I got the tape in place, and went to pull my hand away, the tape popped off, stuck to my glove. It took longer to put that little bit of tape on, than it did to tape up the windows of the cabin. First coat on, and in the morning I will put another coat on. I believe I only have to put on 3 or 4 coats, this time. There were some spots you could tell haven't been sanded in a long time. They just kept on putting coats on.
The Cetol is a varnish alternative, that actually has color to it. We will put a couple of coats of the natural teak colored Cetol on, then a couple of coats of clear Cetol. The hand rails on the forward deck need to be completely sanded down to the wood (like we did to the rest of the teak), and done the same as we did to the rest of the boat. We will be doing that when we are not on a time schedule, as we are now. We have to get in the water!!!
We were going to be going in the water after we finished the bottom, then we found out we can't do any sanding in the water, so we buckled down, and now the top is done too.The inside of the hatches will be done from the inside.
We are the proud owners of Cerridwen. Now every penny we make goes into her. Finally everything is falling into place. We have a man coming out, as soon as we hit the water, to clean the fuel. After sitting for awhile, not moving around, the crud gets settled to the bottom, and then sucked up into the filter, and gets all clogged and causes some bad stuff to happen to the motor, and we don't want that to happen. That will take all the funds that we don't have, to fix, and the time that we want to do stuff will be put off, etc. . .

Hopefully we will be getting in the water pretty soon, so we can get on with all the exciting things that we are planning on experiencing.

No Shortcuts

The Cap'n decided we needed some water time, so we lowered the Heather Marie and went for a sundown row. Roxi decided she wanted to bring their ball, and right after we left the dock Sailor dropped the ball over the side, on purpose. So that was the end of playing ball in the dinghy. It was the full moon, it was so bright, and the water was so flat. nice
The sanding continues, this weekend the sheer stripe. Hopefully we can bust out the sanding with the #8o, so we can sand it again with #12o, then we sand it with #18o, so we can then start to put some Cetol (an alternative to varnish that lasts longer)to seal it.
The sanding seems like it is taking forever to do, but, it's one of those things that does that, till it's done, and you look at it with pride, because you did it right, with no shortcuts.

Bottom Done

While the Cap'n installed the name on her, I started rolling the bottom paint. I sure am glad that it only took 1 1/2 cans to do 1, thick coat on her underbelly. Especially since it costs $195.oo a gallon, for the kind we used. There was another brand for $239.oo a gallon. Bottom paint contains copper, for the electrolysis, that keeps the critters from hitching a ride. Barnacles are not choosy on where they attach. Plus we were finished with the rudder, so we jumped on it. We also ordered the paint for the Sheer Stripe, which is the strip just below the Cap Rail, and just above the Rub Rail. She looks fabulous.
We also found out that there is no sanding, painting, or teaking on the water. So it looks like we need to do the whole outside first, before  she goes in the water. Well it sure is a good thing I don't have nothing but time. Bunkmate

Name On

We ordered the name and call #s about a week ago, and they got here just in time. We had the areas prepped for them already. The Cap'n did an exceptionally awesome job on the installation. He is pretty handy to have around.

Rudder Up

rudder on n names on the way 5-4-14

This weekend we got the rudder back up in place, the stuffing box stuffed, the wheel is all hooked up, we ordered the lettering and ID#s too. The rudder was quite heavy, I used every muscle in my body and it laughed at me. Nonetheless we got alot of stuff done. We are pretty sure we are about 2 weeks to SPLASH. The leaking hole on the keel has been leaking pretty good for the past couple of days, and this morning, nothing. Hopefully it has all seeped out and is drying, hahaha. We plan on putting the first bottom coat on in a couple of days, so we are going to epoxy the hole up real good, and call it good. And check it all the time.

250 Gallons Of Fresh Water

I was starting a bowl of dirty dishes, hahaha, and the water pump wouldn't turn off. The Cap'n says that we should have plenty of water, because he himself had put alot of water in the other day. Which gives me an opportunity to learn the water tanks.
We have two stainless steel tanks, 125 gallons, each. The water comes thru a water hose, thru the deck, down the hull, on the starboard side, to the water tank, then it has holes that keep the 2 tanks level. The valves to check the water, is right at the bottom of the companionway. There is a man that lives at the bottom of one of the water tanks. We need to cycle in fresh, clean water, by the time we venture out to the deep blu, hahaha, top of the priority list, that will be fresh, clean water. Also we have one spout that is in the head that has filtered water.
We also have a hot water tank, I think it's like 6 gallons. And the water is frikkin hot!! Which is located under the aft cabin, under the bunk. We hold alot more water than alot of sv's, Sailing Vessel's.
Hot and cold running water

And There Ya Go

We had just bought our house, the kids all moved out, we have a new truck in the driveway, and a new car, then some 'thing' happened. We looked at each other and said WTF are we doing?? We have all this and all we wanna do is go to the ocean, go to the water, we come from the water, we love the water, we lived on a houseboat on the Delta, at Tower Park Marina, for 5 years before we moved to Medford, Oregon. We love to fish, -strictly catch and release, unless the fish is bleeding- We love to watch the wind on the water. That is when we decided to walk away from it all, and, , , , well, , , , Here we are!!!
We paid everything off, we have a couple of small do dahs, and thats it.
And loving everyday, wondering what tomorrow will bring, and living for today.
